About this trip-
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë is a revolutionary bildungsroman novel tracing Jane’s eventful journey from the hardships of Lowood School to Thornfield Hall. Through the hardships of her childhood as an orphan, and the rigid expectations of womanhood, Jane comes to gain her own voice and sense of self.
On this pilgrimage, we'll look at the theme of becoming through Jane’s coming-of-age in the novel. Delving into Jane’s experiences and relationships, we will think about questions such as: Can growth occur without uncertainty? Is belonging possible without a compromise of self? How can love and independence coexist?
In Haworth, pilgrims will explore the landscapes and sites that informed Charlotte Brontë’s world. We will delve into the world and ideas of the novel while gathering at the individually designed accommodations offered by Holdsworth House, a stunning Jacobean manor with history and beauty embedded in its unique fixtures. There will be opportunities for pilgrims to enjoy a cup of tea and a book in the gardens, explore the grounds, or take pleasure in a relaxing spa treatment.

We expect to walk up to 8 miles per day, but most days will require less walking. The weather in England in May has an average low of 50 degrees Fahrenheit and an average high of 61 degrees Fahrenheit. We will walk/utilize the outdoors come rain or shine, and we recommend that pilgrims prepare for the possibility of warmer or colder temperatures than expected, and potential rain on our walks. We won’t rush our walks, but we expect to be tired at the end of each day.
